2026: What's out and what's in

As we roll into 2026, I didn't want to set bold resolutions. Here's a different perspective on what I'd like out of my year to come.

Last week I was listening to Ben Lee and Ione Skye's podcast, Weirder Together. They had a fun discussion about moving into the new year and what they wanted to see more of and less of in 2026.

Here's my personal take on a few things I'd like to see in and out of my life in 2026.

OUT: Running to check boxes on my training plan

IN: Running for the joy of it

OUT: Being crushed for time and reacting to things asked of me.

IN: Protecting my time and giving more measured responses

OUT: Spending all weekend on household chores

IN: Focused times for cleaning and washing up; intentional time doing literally anything else.

OUT: Making excuses for why I shouldn't be playing games / watching TV / reading a book

IN: Just doing the thing without justification.

OUT: Only just keeping up on home maintenance

IN: Focusing on making our space, ours. This means doing jobs that make our space joyous for us to be in.

OUT: Filling my commute / work day / workout with podcasts

IN: Listening to audiobooks. My shelf is full of books I haven't made time to read; at least I can learn from them and enjoy these new worlds sonically.

OUT: Days full of back-to-back meetings

IN: Intentional space to reflect, follow up, and respond

IN: Live music.

IN: Bring present for my family

IN: Being present.
